Emphasis on journalism in a hybrid media environment.

In recent years I have published a variety of peer-reviewed articles all connected to journalism and media in a hybrid media environment. I was employed by Tampere University for two years in 2019–2021, and I have a spent a 6-month-period at Wilson Center in Washington DC as a visiting scholar in 2022. I received the title of Docent (Associate Professor) from the University of Jyväskylä in 2023.

Flows of Power Research project

I was part of a research project Flows of Power (Flopo), which ran from 2019 to 2022. The project was part of The Academy Programme Media and Society (MediaSoc) funded by The Academy of Finland.

PHD ON JOURNALISTIC HISTORY-MAKING

I completed my Doctorate in Social Sciences (Journalism) from the University of Tampere in 2016. My doctoral thesis Journalistic history-making - 1960's in Helsingin Sanomat in 2008 and 2013 (in Finnish) can be downloaded from here.

We also published an article with my colleague Hannu-Pekka Ikäheimo on anniversary journalism as an interpreter of history and a molder of the present in 2020. The article studied how three Finnish daily newspapers present EU history and Finland's EU history.

PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE (2019–2020)

I had an honor of holding the position of the Professor of Practice in Journalism at Tampere University for the academic year 2019–2020.

During the year I lectured on various media-related issues and taught two advanced workshops (podcast production and interviewing) for graduate students. Also I continued the work on my own research.

Tampere University has had a Professor of Practice (formerly Visiting Professor) in Journalism since 2007. A new professional is chosen for the position every year. Journalism is currently taught in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences (ITC).
